Helpful Hints in Selecting your Judges Panel
Eligibility
Anyone that is over 25 years of age and who attended the
latest MAP judges
seminar is eligible to judge provided that they are not
one of the following:
- A
provider of goods or services to contestants
- An
employee of a provider of goods or services
- Someone
closely associated with a provider of goods or services
- A
former contestant that has competed with a contestant in the
pageant
- An
Executive Director in which one of the contestants in the
pageant is
his/her former titleholder
- Anyone
who has coached or otherwise assisted a contestant in
preparing for the
pageant
- Anyone
who judged the same pageant the year before
- Anyone
that has judged four pageants in the same year
- Any
parent of a young lady that is eligible to compete in the MAP
system (unless
there is a letter of non-competing on file with the state office)
Perception
If being on a judge’s panel can be perceived as something
other than what it is,
you should not ask that person and they should not
accept. Some examples are:
- Their son is dating the contestant’s sister.
- Their daughter is in the same sorority as a contestant.
- They work very closely with the parents of the contestant.
- They are related in any way to the contestant.
- Closely associated with an immediate family member. i.e.
attend the
same church
If there is any question in your mind about someone you are
going to ask to judge,
call your field director and let him or her make the
decision. If they do not have
the answer, they will direct it to the Director of
Field Operations and the MAP
Board.
Other Considerations
Remember you must have a two-star judge on your panel. This
is someone that
is directly associated with the Miss Arkansas Pageant and is on
the current judges
list provided by MAP. It is suggest that you also use
two one-star judges. This is
someone that has judged at least two local pageants.
We also suggest that you
use two no-star judges. This is someone that attended
the MAP seminar but that
has not judged two local pageants.
It is especially important that you use judges from the MAP
list because of recent
changes in the judging and scoring. Someone who has
not attended the seminar
will not be aware of these changes.
Remember you must provide your field director with a list
of your judges panel
two weeks prior to your pageant. They will forward the list
to the MAP office and
to the Director of Field Operations.
