March 20, 2009

Wow! Spring Break is FINALLY here! This past 9 weeks of school has been a real challenge, but I am proud to say that I managed to make all A's! :) On top of school, I've been extremely busy with pageant appearances and dance practices and competitions. I have had a blast though!

The other day I was thinking to myself about how fast everything has gone by, and it honestly seems like one giant blur.  I have had so many wonderful opportunities all over the state that have made this year phenomenal.  There have been countless times when I've just sat in my room and held my crown, reminiscing about all of the great times I've had being MAOT.  Sometimes I laugh. Sometimes I get a little teary-eyed. Most of the time I cry because I realize how bad I'm going to miss this.  I've made so many friends and memories that I'll never forget.  I've pretty much decided that I'm not going to crown a new MAOT this summer...and I'm just going to keep the title one more year, maybe two! (Just kidding) I definitely would do everything all over again without any hesitation.  Even typing this blog has made my eyes water a bit, or maybe its the pollen in the air, but I doubt it! :)

I just want everyone to know how honored and blessed I feel to be MAOT and how much everything means to me.  I love my life! It's pretty "amazing"! I'm so excited for any girl who is given the chance of a lifetime that I was given last summer.  I can't wait for the teen meeting in May so I can meet and talk to all of the girls competing this summer! Toadsuck is going to be so much fun for everyone!

Hope everyone has a great Spring Break!

Hey! A new blog post is a bit overdue! I can honestly say that I have an excuse because I have been super busy since the last time I was able to post.

It seems like just yesterday I was telling you how excited I was about the several things coming up on my busy schedule! Now most all of it is behind me!

First of all, Miss America was more than I ever expected! Ashlen looked absolutely beautiful and we should all be extremely proud of her accomplishments! Vegas was a blast! It was so fun getting to see all of the teens from nationals! I miss them even more! It was especially fun being able to perform on the actual Miss America stage with all of them!  And Thank you Mr.Tommy Lyons for allowing me to wear the most adorable dress for the finals of the pageant! Other than Vegas, I also performed at Miss Ouachita River/South in El Dorado and I had a great time! Congrats to the new winners once again! I'm so excited for you all!

Here lately, I've been involved with much more than pageants! I'm a competitive dancer, so competition season has just begun. I've already competed at my first two competitions in Dallas and Little Rock, and my studio, Fabulous Feet the Company, was very successful! Also, I'm in the Rison High School Beta Club, and my school chose me to run for the office of State Secretary. At the State Convention in Hot Springs, the RHS Beta Club and I campaigned with the slogan "iSloane"- like the iPhone- and worked hard to get the votes from other schools! Surprisingly, I won the office, and I'm currently the Arkansas State Beta Secretary ,and I'm so excited that I was able to represent my school so well!  This summer our club is going to Beta Nationals in Orlando, Florida where I will re-compete for National Beta Secretary! I can't wait! The Attorney General's office has called and asked me to make a presentation about Missing and Abducted Children issues on March 20 at Monticello Elementary School, and they've asked me to participate for my third year at the Annual Children's Safety Day in May!

Congratulations to all of the new title holders! I hope to see you at some local preliminaries soon! My next appearance will be at Miss OBU, and then I'll be appearing at Miss Star City Pageants and then Miss Lakes of the NW and the new Frisco Springs Pageants!

Thomas and I have had some conversations about the productions for this summer, and you all should be really excited! I think it's going to be a lot of fun for everyone! I can't wait! Oh, and by the way, Good Luck to all of the girls because I'm not planning on crowning a new MAOT...I love this way too much! I truly am going to miss everything about my year. Every minute of it has been amazing! I'm so thankful to have experienced everything I have just within the past several months of my reign!

Hey! Once again, it's been a while! I've been so busy these past few months that I haven't found enough time to let you all know what all has been going on in my life.

Since my last blog, I had the chance to get my official headshots taken by Mr.Jerry Davis! The shoot was very fun and the pictures turned out great! I loved all of them! Thank you Mr. Jerry and Ms.Jane White for making me look beautiful.  Also, I was asked to be the keynote speaker for the kickoff of MADD's National Teen Drivers Safety Week and had the opportunity to meet several wonderful people involved with that organization.   I have entertained at several pageants, including the State Fair pageant and talent competition, the Conway/Spirit pageants, Miss UCA, and the Central pageants. Congratulations to all of the knew title holders! I'm so excited for all of you! I was also a model for Mr. Tommy Lyons from Venue in the Heights at the Heartball Mother/Daughter Lucheon held in the Hot Springs Country Club for the American Heart Association. Thanks again, Mr. Tommy, for allowing me to wear all of the gorgeous gowns. The Christmas card photo shoot with Ashlen, shot by Mr. Danny Barger from You've Got the Look Photography, was an absolute blast! We had a great time! Ashlen and her family are so sweet and so much fun to be around! Thanks Mr. Danny for the wonderful pictures and Dennis Harris for making my hair and make-up look fabulous.  I'm scheduled to be at the Miss Lights of the Delta pageant this upcoming weekend and I know it's going to be so much fun! This will be my third consecutive year to be able to participate in the Lights of the Delta festivites, and I'm so excited!  I was asked to be the Grand Marshall in the Drew County Candle Light Christmas parade December 2nd in Monticello, and also be a part of the El Dorado Christmas parade as well as entertain on December 6th.

As you can see, I have many many things to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day! I have the most amazing family who has provided me with all of the love and support I need and more! Everyday, my pageant family just grows and grows and gets even closer to my family.  Thanks to everyone who has always been there for me in life!

This year is going by so fast, and I'm trying to cherish every minute of it! Between the college level courses in school, the late dance practices, and the several responsibilities of being Miss Arkansas's Outstanding Teen, I have to say my life is pretty crazy. I can honestly say that I wouldn't want it any other way! So far this has been the most unforgettable year of my entire life! I'm so blessed to have the chance to experience everything that I have this year and I do not want it to end!

God Bless!

Sept. 17, 2008

Hey everyone! I haven't posted a blog in a while, and I wanted to keep you all up to date on what my life has been like so far as the state titleholder.

First of all, nationals was a BLAST! It definitely was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.  All of the girls were extremely nice and so much fun to hang out with for ten days.  I miss them all so much! I hope I made you all proud! It was truly an honor to represent the state of Arkansas at the national level, and it is an opportunity that I will never forget.  I was blessed to have received the blue group Talent preliminary and Evening Gown preliminary awards, as well as 2nd runner up to Miss America's Outstanding Teen.  I can't believe it went by so fast! Most importantly, I want to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to everyone who sent cards and gifts while I was in Orlando.  I was very fortunate to be one of the few girls that recieved a gift every night of the entire trip.  Your support meant so much to me, and was a big confidence booster during the competition knowing so many people back home were wishing me the best of luck.  I still am ecstatic about receiving all of the awards at the national pageant, not to mention the $17000 in scholarship-my parents were very excited about that!

Recently I have made appearances at the Miss Northeast Arkansas preliminary pageant. Congratulations to Miss NEA, Sarah Pease, and Miss NEAOT, Shaylee Lawhon! They both did such a great job and will represent their local very well at state.  I also was the emcee of the Miss Union County pageants in El Dorado, Arkansas.  I'm looking forward to the Miss Cleveland County pageants, where I will also be emceeing and entertaining.  I will also be attending the Music Fest pageants in El Dorado coming up soon.

So far my year has been incredible! I'm excited that it is still just the beginning, and I know that there is so much in store for me throughout my year as MAOT! Thanks again to everyone for all of your support!

July 21, 2008

WOW!! I have had an amazing two weeks since being given this wonderful opportunity! I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and had such kind things to say to me. People from all over Arkansas have made my first two weeks FABULOUS! I don't know if you all realize what incredible sponsors and volunteers we are so blessed to have in this state. A Formal Affair, Clark's Bridal and Formal, and Venue in the Heights have been so gracious in helping me with my wardrobe since I was crowned. I have been blessed to have the most genuinely supportive local directors since beginning this pageant system. Ms. Angela Lowry, Ms. Eva Lee Graves, Mrs. Marietta Jerome, Mrs. Nancy Goodman, and Mr. Ned Metcalf, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your love and support over the years. Now, I'm fortunate to have fantastic support from my state directors Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Jan Collins. I know they will make this year unforgettable!

My first appearance as Miss Arkansas's Outstanding Teen was an interview on Positively Arkansas on KTHV. I had a blast talking about the pageant experience and how I am completely ecstatic about the opportunity to represent Arkansas. I would like to thank Jerry Davis for my new portraits and Danny and Tommy Sue Barger for all of the wonderful pictures.  The Miss Arkansas week was filled with so much excitement and fun! Being able to perform and simply walk the runway of the Miss Arkansas stage was more than I ever dreamed it would be.  I'm so happy and excited for our new Miss Arkansas, Ashlen Batson, who is going to represent our state very well! I'm sure we will have an incredible year together!

My next appearance will be at the White River pageants. I'm proud to say that I won the title of MAOT as Miss White River's Outstanding Teen. Mr. Ned was such a big support throughout my year as his "girl," and I will truly miss him. After crowning my successor at White River, it's time to start packing for Orlando! I'm so excited about my chance of a lifetime at nationals. For those who don't know, I'm in the blue group as contestant #7. I will have my interview Monday afternoon, sportswear Tuesday, talent Wednesday, and evening gown and on-stage question on Thursday. There are no prelims on Friday and the finals are on Saturday.

Until next time,

Sloane
