"I ask you to seek a common good beyond your comfort...to serve your nation, beginning with your neighbor. I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens, building communities of service and a nation of character."
Heather French, Miss America 2000, on what being Miss America is
all about . . .
"I really believe that what you get in this life is what you give. If you go into the Miss America Organization with this perspective, the rewards you reap will be phenomenal. It is only 10 percent glamour and 90 percent giving of yourself to your community. It's easy for the general public to see who's the thinnest or the prettiest, it's the inner things that make an impact. Beauty fades. The things of the heart last forever."
Heather Whitestone, Miss America 1995, on success . . .
"I believe the true meaning of success is measured by the difference made in other people's lives."
