Darynne Dahlem is a 22-year old Honor graduate of the University of Arkansas.  In May of 2019 she received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.  At Miss Arkansas, Darynne won a $30,000 scholarship provided by the Skokos Foundation and the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation and more than $75,000 in awards, wardrobe, transportation and gifts.  She represented Arkansas at the 2020 Miss America Pageant in Uncasville, Connecticut in December where she was named as a STEM Scholarship Finalist.

During her year as Miss Arkansas 2019, Darynne will make appearances across the Natural State serving as Arkansas’ spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle Network and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and promoting her personal platform of “Know Who You Are.”  She will also promote the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Organization while speaking about the goals of the Miss Arkansas and Miss America System.  

At this year’s Miss Arkansas Pageant, Darynne brought home an additional $14,550 in scholarships for a grand total of $44,550 this year.  She won the Sarah Slocum Overall Interview Award as well as the Overall On Stage Interview Award.  Darynne also won the Jessie Ward Bennett Leadership Award, the Claudia Raffo Enhance Arkansas Award, the Asher Ray Mentor Award, the Melonie Moore Overall Vocalist Award, the Online Favorite Award and one of the two Legacy Awards.  During the Arrival Ceremonies it was announced that she won the Medical Professionals Marketplace Scholarship.  During Preliminary Competition, Darynne won one of the two Social Impact in Evening Wear Awards for the Sigma Group. 

After her year as Miss Arkansas concludes. Darynne plans to use her scholarship money to attend medical school.  She plans to one day specialize in pediatric cardiology and work at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  During her time competing in Miss Arkansas she raised almost $11,000 for CMN and Arkansas Children’s.

This was Darynne’s fifth time to grace the Miss Arkansas stage.  She has won nearly $95,000 in scholarships during this time.  She won the crown as Miss Apple Blossom this year. 

In 2018, as Miss Northwest Arkansas she tied for the Katie Bailey Overall Swimsuit Award and the Sarah Slocum Overall Interview Award. She won the Julie Blackwood Smart Swimsuit Award, a Preliminary Swimsuit Award, was in the Top Five Children’s Miracle Maker fundraisers and finished 2nd Runner Up.

In 2017, as Miss University of Arkansas she won the Jessie Bennett Leadership Award, the Melonie Moore Overall Vocalist Award, was the CMN Miracle Maker and finished 1st Runner Up.

As Miss Arkansas Valley in 2016 she won the Sarah Slocum Overall Interview Award, the STEM Award and a Non-Finalist Interview Award.

In 2015, as Miss Western Arkansas she won an Overall Newcomer Award, Alpha Interview for her group, the Overall Alpha Interview Award, the Overall Alpha Evening Gown Award, the Delta Dental Smile Award and finished in the Top Ten.


With Darynne’s personal platform, “Know Who You Are,” she plans to continue her work throughout the state encouraging students to make good choices that will help protect their futures.  She wants to encourage mentoring programs aimed at helping our nation’s youth and continue to implement programs such as Save AR Students to make a difference in tomorrow’s society.  She believes if you truly know who you are, you won’t be led to do or be something you’re not!

For her talent selection, Darynne performed a vocal to “Somewhere” from the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story. She said that she selected this music for its beautiful story.

While at the University of Arkansas, was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority where she served as Body Image Coordinator and Crisis Management Team Leader. She was on the Honors College Dean’s List all four years, a member of the Arkansas Alumni Association, served as a Senator for the Associates Student Government, and was a UA Campus Council Member.  Darynne was Vice-Chair (2018) and Events Coordinator (2017) for the Bumpers Honors College as well as an anchor for UATV.  She attended the 2016 Presidential Inauguration and was an active member of Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol.

Darynne is the daughter of Ron and Traci Lewellen of Greenwood.  She is a 2015 Honors Graduate of Greenwood High School.  Darynne is the granddaughter of Ron Fields of Fort Smith and Patti Gilstrap Camuso of Fort Smith.
